The comma should be optional in both the spec and BNF, as in CONTAINS( [<qualifier> , ] <arg> )", so that you can write "CONTAINS( arg )".

The spec for the optional qualifier in CONTAINS() (line 924), IN_FOLDER() (line 976), and IN_TREE() (line 996) all read like this: "CONTAINS( [<qualifier>], <arg> )". So if the optional qualifier is not supplied, the function must be written as: "CONTAINS( , arg )" (with the bonus comma). BNF agrees.
