Submit Open Office v1.3 to ISO SC34

As well as being a member of the ODF TC and one of the current co-editors of ODF, I am also Chair of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 34, which you may recall is the ISO sub-committee which deals with document file format standards and several years ago set up a Working Group – of which I also happen to be Convenor – to collaborate with the OASIS TC on maintenance of ISO/IEC 26300, the ISO version of ODF.

For some time I have been telling my ISO colleagues that progress on ODF 1.3 was slow but steady, and eventually there would be a new edition of ODF that would need to be transposed as an ISO standard and be then subject to the established joint maintenance regime involving SC 34. As the current liaison representative of OASIS, Alfred Hellstern (Microsoft) will be reporting to SC 34’s annual Plenary meeting this week, and will no doubt be saying that ODF 1.3 has now been published, and there will almost certainly be questions about whether and when ODF 1.3 will be submitted to JTC 1 for PAS transposition. Are you able to provide any information that I or Alfred could pass on in response to questions of this nature?
