The JSON format spec includes the same definition in section JSON Format 10 Media Entity.

Therefore, proposal is to simply remove the statement about the format in the fifth paragraph: "For requests with an OData-Version header with a value of 4.01 or greater, the media stream of a media entity can be updated by specifying the base64url-encoded format-specific representation of the media stream as a virtual property $value."

      Description

The Protocol spec describes in section 11.4.3 Update an Entity how media entities can be updated with OData V4.01. It contains a statement about the format how the media stream should be represented.

Statements about data representation should only be made in the corresponding format specs.
