We should discuss adding an OData specific header (such as If-Metadata-Match) that can be used to conditionally control response/requests based on the Metadata ETag. Two examples:

1) Only perform a POST if the metadata for the inserted entity type has not changed.

2) Only return a delta response if the metadata has not changed.
