          I am quite sure that no implementation implements what the ODF standard currently requires, but that every implementation has a factor depending on n (the number of data pairs.) Unfortunately this factor could be 1/n (population covariance) or 1/(n-1) (sample covariance). Is suspect that implementations are using 1/n, since that is what was implemented in MS Excel, but we need to verify that.

          Discussed on TC call of 30 April 2012: Excel, Gnumeric, LibreOffice and OpenOffice appears to calculate the population covariance.

          So is the proposal that we clarify to require 1/N?

          Yes, we should include a factor of 1/N where N is the number of terms in the sum; i.e.
          Semantics : returns 1/N\times (existing formula) where \bar

          {n1} is the result of calling AVERAGE(n1), bar{n1}

          is the result of calling AVERAGE(n2), and N is the number of terms in the sum.

          I just checked, and 1/n is what Excel uses.
