18.500 contains a note that reflects what is requested in the issue. We may however want to turn that into a normative "should" clause.

Suggestion: Turn the note in 18:500 style:name into the following normative statement:

For automatic styles, the name may be generated by OpenDocument producers. For each style family or style element, producers should generate distinct sets of names for automatic styles stored in the content.xml and styles.xml files (see section 2.2.3). The names should also be distinct from the names used in the <office:styles> element inside the styles.xml files.

Note: If the document is produced several times, it cannot be assumed that the same name is generated each time.

The new text should not be indented, because it is related to all style elements.

I further suggest to remove the paragraph in front of the note, staring with "In an OpenDocument document,"

          Michael,

Do we need the reference to 2.3.3? That is the general package section and probably not helpful here. I have entered the rest of the correction.

We may also reference 2.2.3.1 and 2.2.3.2. That's where content.xml and styles.xml are mentioned.
