Nodes have a "state" attribute that can be queried (from the instance model) in order to determine at which stage of its (normative) lifecycle the node is in. A similar state attribute should be available for Relationships, but with with values that are relative to the (normative) relationship lifecycle. These states should clearly be defined on a table within appendix A.3 in the v1.0 TOSCA Simple Profile in YAML document.
